Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme

In April 2009, the government announced the introduction of The Early Childhood Care & Education Scheme (ECCE). The ECCE scheme aims to provide one year of free pre-school education to every child in Ireland aged between 3 years 3 months and 4 years 6 months on 1st September each year. For those children who qualify, the government will contribute an amount based on the qualifications of the staff in the childcare facility, for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week over a 38 week period only.

Rainbow Montessori Sutton applied to enter this scheme and was accepted, with commencement on 1st January 2010.

Aistear

With the implementation of Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework – Rainbow Montessori School introduced the concept of four themes:

  1. Well Being
  2. Identity & Belonging
  3. Communicating
  4. Exploring & Thinking

Fun Friday was started this year so each Friday your child may bring into school a toy of their choice and the full day concentrates on the different characteristics of play, the types of play and by enriching and extending learning by play. We have found this adds a different dimension to the children’s attitudes regarding turn taking and role playing.

NCS

The National Childcare Scheme (NCS) which commenced in October 2019 will support families with children aged between 24 weeks and 15 years who are attending any participating Tusla registered childcare service. Rainbow Montessori Sutton is registered with Tusla and is participating in NCS to facilitate parents.
